4th Green Flag

This year our school was awarded the 4th green flag for travel. We came up with a slogan to help us ‘walk, cycle, skate or scoot, go green and don’t pollute’.

W.O.W day - Every Wednesday the students were encouraged to walk, run, cycle or scoot to school and after every W.O.W day we recorded how many students travelled to school in a green way.

Being involved in the Green Schools initiative is an enjoyable experience. Here are some of the activities we are part of in our school…

  • Save water -We work hard to conserve water in school and at home by turning off the taps when not needed.
  • Recycle waste foods – we encourage the students to recycle their leftover fruit and veg and put it into the compost bins in school and at home.
  • Save energy – We talk to the students about saving energy by simply turning the light and switches off when not needed at school and at home.
  • Litter duty – each class on the Green Schools committee have a particular day to go around the school yards collecting rubbish to keep our school clean and tidy. We remind the children to put the rubbish into the correct bin and not on the yards. We also have a rota for collecting the compost bins from classes, staffroom and entrance porch. These bins are emptied into the school compost bin and then this compost is used in our school garden.
