Pat Fay

The school community was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Pat Fay, retired school caretaker in the early hours of Monday, 18 May. Pat was known for his generosity and friendliness as a person and for his genius and skill as a mechanic and caretaker. Always positive, Pat displayed a ‘can do’ attitude and never accepted that a solution could not be found especially where mechanical problems were concerned. In the short time I worked with him I was impressed at how he could diagnose the plumbing problems from sounds it made!. I admired his creativity and his handiwork is everywhere around the school. He came up with the simple idea of attaching hooks to the doors. He enjoyed great independence in his retirement and we extend our sympathies to his family and many friends. May he Rest in Peace,

“Circle of Friends, Strong and True” - second class.

Under other circumstances the St. Anne’s N.S. school choir would be filling the corridors with sweet singing as I write. I can hear it in my mind. The excitement around the school would have reached 8 or 9 out of 10 in anticipation of First Holy Communion Day. If you stood still someone would rush past you on a mission to laminate, photocopy, paint, deliver booklets, benches etc.

Times have suddenly changed and I know First Holy Communion can’t happen on May 23rd as planned. It will happen though, when the time is right. Did you ever think you would go down in history for making your First Holy Communion in ‘the year of the Covid?’ Now, that will be a story everyone will want to hear. But firstly, let’s do what our parents and government ask us so we will be safe and First Holy Communion day will come sooner. Keep writing about all these strange things in your diary.

Fr. Ultan will remember St. Anne’s N.S.’s First Holy Communion Class especially at 7PM Mass on Saturday evening May 23rd on https://www.churchservices.tv/stannesbailieborough.

Thank you Fr. Ultan. Tune in if you can. Thank you for your photos by the way. Mr. O Dowd and Ms. McIntyre are making a lovely montage and we can’t wait to see it.

Great News for Green Schools

Earlier this month we received the fantastic news that our 4th Green Schools

Travel Flag application has been successful. The team at Green Schools were

very impressed with our application and the level of achievement of our school

community. The success of our Green Schools programme would not be

possible without the hard work and commitment of our Green Schools

committee, our pupils and teachers and our parents. Many thanks to all who

have been involved and supported us along the way and remember……

Walk, cycle, skate or scoot, go green and don’t pollute

Well Done Everyone!!

“Dissemination of Books”

We have been in regular contact with our insurance rep since the schools closed abruptly in March. On Tuesday of this week, Alliance gave us permission to open the school ‘for the dissemination of books’.

The books have been placed in bags and arranged in order in the hall by your child’s teacher. The hall will be closed until Tuesday morning, May 26th. We ask that everyone observes social distancing and avoids congregating in groups.

Thank you

Well done to all our students on keeping their work up to date. Teachers are preparing the important work of writing up summer reports and your work will be acknowledged and recorded. Parents and guardians, I want to especially say a sincere word of thanks to you for the work you do day by day in maintaining the link with education and school for your child. If there is any practical way in which you think we can help, please let us know.
