Remembering Pat.
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Pat Fay, our former caretaker, colleague and
friend here at St. Anne’s N.S. Although Pat retired from this role almost ten years ago he is fondly
remembered by all of the staff, past and present, who had the pleasure of working with him. His
kindness, calm demeanour and warm smile will always be remembered.
Pat took the role of caretaker at St. Anne’s when Seán Hanley was principal. The two of them formed
a lasting friendship forged out of many hours of fixing the myriad problems associated with keeping
the, sometimes ailing, plumbing, electrical and heating systems going in a school of our size. In
Seán’s words, ‘Pat was a man who could turn his hand to anything.’ And indeed practically every
room in the school displays his handiwork to this day, be it shelves, cupboards or the lovely
handmade wooden plaques displaying the teacher’s name on their classroom door.
Pat was a mechanic who for many years ran his garage business from the building which is now the
local Red Cross office and a lot of teachers at St. Anne’s credit Pat with keeping their cars road
worthy and running smoothly for years.
A devoted husband to his beloved Teresa who predeceased him, a wonderful father and
grandfather, his association with St. Anne’s, as a parent and grandparent, spanned many decades.
Our thoughts, at this time, are with his daughter-in-law, and our colleague, Clare, his son, Declan, his
daughters, Patricia and Annette and his grandchildren, Megan, Devlin, Kyle and Adam, all of whom
are past pupils. He was one of life’s true gentlemen and will be sorely missed by all who had the
good fortune to have known him.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
